Community Biocultural Food Day

People gathered at Ediblescapes for a community biocultural food learning event in the garden

Community Biocultural Food Day is our monthly 2026 gathering focused on the living relationship between edible plants, food knowledge, cultural memory and shared community learning.

These gatherings bring people together around the practical and cultural dimensions of food in the edible forest garden. Depending on the season and what is growing, the day may include plant identification, discussion of traditional and contemporary uses, shared preparation, tasting, simple cooking and conversation about how knowledge is carried through food.

Shared preparation and learning through edible plants at Ediblescapes

The focus is not only on what grows in the garden, but also on how people learn with plants through practice, memory, observation and exchange.

Activities may include:

  • exploring edible leaves, roots, fruits and useful plants
  • learning how different communities prepare and understand plants
  • seasonal harvesting and observation
  • shared preparation and tasting
  • simple plant-based cooking or demonstration
  • conversation about food, care, culture and place
  • learning through direct experience in the garden

This monthly gathering reflects Ediblescapes as a public edible forest garden and a place of community learning, where food knowledge is shared in practical, respectful and living ways.

Everyone is welcome to join, observe, participate and learn.
